The Materials Innovation and Learning Laboratory (The MILL) is an open access undergraduate student-run make-and-measure space sponsored by the School of Materials Science & Engineering at Georgia Tech. Started in 2016, we are the first-ever undergraduate-run make-and-measure space dedicated to Materials Science and Engineering (MSE).
We are based in the Love Manufacturing Building (Rm 176). The MILL provides a safe and relaxed discovery space to gain hands-on experience with common discipline techniques, including the characterization of materials’ chemistry and structure, the measurement of material properties, and materials processing. All Georgia Tech students, faculty, and staff have open access to learn about any of our equipment during our open hours under the supervision of one of our MILL staffers, managed through our equipment teams.

We strive to serve as Georgia Tech’s Hub for experiential education in MSE, providing students with hands-on scientific training and inquiry-based discovery science and engineering design for class projects, team-based capstone design, laboratory courses, independent or group research, and entrepreneurial pursuits. We encourage any and all Georgia Tech students or faculty to come visit our space, use any of our over 40 free to use pieces of equipment, or participate in events hosted by our L&D teams!
